Plantation

Our Flagship, Kelani Valley Plantations PLC (KVPL) and Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC (TTE) collectively account for 3.8% and 3.4% of Sri Lanka’s tea and rubber production respectively. The two companies cover 44 Tea and Rubber estates with a land extent of almost 19,500 hectares. As industry pioneers, we’ve raised the bar to integrate sustainable practices into the business process and joined forces with external parties such as the Rain Forest Alliance to reinforce the sustainable approach. Tea varieties from the two plantation companies are well known for the distinct flavour, which is maintained through consistency in quality and the strict adherence to food safety standards.

KELANI VALLEY PLANTATIONS (KVPL)

Tea of different regions has distinctive characteristics. Kelani Valley Plantations PLC estates span three agro-climatic zones.

KVPL is known for its Oliphant Green Tea. Manufactured at the highest elevation of 1,950 metres above sea level, the tea fields mainly consist of small china jat of species ‘Camellia Sinensis’ and benefit from the South West monsoon –all of which are factors that help us to produce the finest green tea from Sri Lanka.

All 13 black tea factories have received the internationally recognized HACCP (Sri Lanka), and ISO 22000:2005 (Switzerland) accreditations. All our tea plantations are Global G.A.P. certified and 14 tea estates have been certified under the Rainforest Alliance Programme. All rubber plantations are certified for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Panawatte and Dewalakande rubber factories have received the FSC Chain of Custody Certification for manufactured sole crepe and latex crepe.

TALAWAKELLE TEA ESTATES (TTEL)

Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC produces high quality black tea in seventeen tea gardens situated in the best tea growing areas in both high and low grown regions. Twelve of the estates are within the Nuwara Eliya district while the rest are situated in Deniyaya and Galle in the south.

We produce quality green tea in Radella. Amongst TTEL’s rich product portfolio are some of the top Dimbulla marks such as Mattakelle, Somerset, Great Western, Bearwell, Holyrood and Wattegodde. Kiruwanaganga from Deniyaya is the flagship mark amongst low grown estates. Our focus on quality and product differentiation enabled the company to rank No 1 RPC at the Auctions for both high and low grown categories in 2009 and 2010.

TTEL pioneered the “Food Factory” concept in the industry and achieved the first HACCP Certification at Great Western in 2001. In Jan 2006, TTEL achieved the first ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems certification reinforcing its Quality leadership. Since then, most factories have achieved ISO 22000 certification.
