Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC produces high quality black tea in seventeen tea gardens situated in the best tea growing areas in both high and low grown regions. Twelve of the estates are within the Nuwara Eliya district while the rest are situated in Deniyaya and Galle in the south.
We produce quality green tea in Radella. Amongst TTEL’s rich product portfolio are some of the top Dimbulla marks such as Mattakelle, Somerset, Great Western, Bearwell, Holyrood and Wattegodde. Kiruwanaganga from Deniyaya is the flagship mark amongst low grown estates. Our focus on quality and product differentiation enabled the company to rank No 1 RPC at the Auctions for both high and low grown categories in 2009 and 2010.
TTEL pioneered the “Food Factory” concept in the industry and achieved the first HACCP Certification at Great Western in 2001. In Jan 2006, TTEL achieved the first ISO 22000 Food Safety Management Systems certification reinforcing its Quality leadership. Since then, most factories have achieved ISO 22000 certification.
All high grown estates have implemented standards of the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture certification programme and six estates received certification in June 2010.
The Company has initiated many joint venture agricultural projects to promote production of value added products and will continue to seek investors in this area.
