Charles Pickering Hayley forms Chas P. Hayley & Co. in Galle.

1909 

Hayley & Kenny, a partnership between W.W. Kenny and Chas P. Hayley,

opened in Colombo.

1911

Charles Pickering Hayley retires following death of his wife and the next generation takes over.

1913

Hayley & Kenny purchase Thurburn stores - 400, Deans Road premises.

1936

Hayley & Kenny converted to a private limited liability company.

1944

Chas P. Hayley & Co. converted to a private limited liability company and becomes a fully owned subsidiary of Hayley & Kenny Ltd.

1951

George G. Hayley, the grandson of the founder, buys Hayley & Kenny Ltd., which was held by heirs of  late W.W. Kenny and Chas P. Hayley.

1952

Hayleys Ltd. formed, by George G. Hayley and executive employees of the two former companies with a paid up capital of Rs. 200,000/-, assuming the assets & liabilities of Hayley & Kenny Ltd

1954

Hayleys Ltd., converted to a public company. Import and export activities extended to cover a wide range of manufactured goods and local produce.

1958

Shipping agency department formed, later reconstituted as Maritime Agencies and subsequently as Hayleys Advantis.

1964

Industries department formed to manufacture agricultural machinery and spraying equipment.

1968

Haychem Ltd., a collaboration with Bayer of Germany, formed for formulation of agrochemicals

1973

Haycarb Ltd., formed to pioneer manufacture and export of activated carbon from coconut shell charcoal

1975

Ravi Industries Ltd. incorporated as a company engaged in the manufacture of brushes, is acquired.

1976

Dipped Products Ltd., a joint venture with Richard Pieris & Co. Ltd., pioneers manufacture of Rubber Gloves

1980

Hayleys moves into outsourcing coir and agricultural produce for export

Haycolour Ltd., enters import substitution industry making colour pigments for textiles

1983

The first overseas venture, Sorbtech Inc. (now Haymark Inc.) formed in USA

1985

Overseas marketing companies formed in Holland, UK, Japan and Australia

1991

Hayleys ventures into Resort Hotels with Jetwing through Carbotels Ltd.

Introduction of employee share ownership schemes within the Group.

Hayleys steps into the business of plantations.

1992

Formation of an Audit Committee consisting of Non-Executive Directors

1994

Haycarb's first overseas factory Carbokarn Co. Ltd., opened in Thailand

1995

DPL acquires  Kelani Valley Plantations (KVPL)

1998

Hayleys Head Office expands from 23,800 sq.ft. to 60,100 sq.ft.

Hayleys acquires Talawakelle Tea Estates.

2000

Hayleys moves into the insurance sector in collaboration with the American International Group

2001

Hayleys steps into power generation in collaboration with AES Corporation of USA

2002

The Inland Marketing companies realigned into 3 focused companies - Ago Products Ltd., Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd. and Hayleys Industrial Solutions Ltd.

2003

Hayleys Advantis Ltd., enteres the business of ship owning

2004

DPL constructs factory in Thailand for the manufacture of medical gloves.

Haycarb invests in a factory in Indonesia.

2006

Hayleys adopts new brand identity.

Hayleys achievs hat trick as Sri lAnka's Best corporate citizen for the third successive year

2007

Hayleys endorses the 10 principles ot the UN Global Compact.

Hayleys becomes the first Sri lankan entity and among the first ten worldwide to endorse the UN CEO water mandate
