Hayleys Consumer continues support for local photographers

11-01-2007

The annual photography competition and exhibition of the Kurunegala Photographic Society will be sponsored once again by Fujifilm, the company's sole representative in Sri Lanka Hayleys Consumer Products Limited (HCPL) said.

This year's exhibition and contest will be held on February 16th, 17th and 18th and is the 27th in a series organized by the society, which has been associated with Hayleys Consumer for 20 years.

HCPL Director Jude Silva said that HCPL and Fujifilm were committed to giving enthusiasts an opportunity to showcase their talents and promote photography in Sri Lanka. "We have worked closely with the Kurunegala Photographic Society in the past as promoting photography is one of the society’s main objectives and this exhibition is an ideal way to achieve this," he said. Mr. Silva extended an invitation to all professionals and those aspiring to be professionals to send in their entries for this elite competition.

Entry forms that contain all details inclusive of the terms and conditions of the competition may be obtained from the Exhibition Secretary of the Society. The closing date for entries is February 7th, 2007.

The President of the Kurunegala Photographic Society Dr. T. S. U. de Zylva, a popular professional photographer said that Hayleys Consumer has always been very generous in helping the society and has been the sponsor for every annual exhibition the society organized over the past decade. "As a result, photographers in the Wayamba and Kurunegala areas have received tremendous benefits throughout these past few years," he said.

The society has a membership of 300 and over 2,000 student members, many of whom have undergone free photography courses through the efforts of the society.

The Secretary of the Society Mr. M. G. Jayasinghe said that Fujifilm has helped them overcome financial and technical obstacles and that the support received from Hayleys Consumer is praiseworthy. "We also appreciate the arrangements made for regional Fujifilm distributors to support this event," he said.

The Kurunegala Photographic Society was established in 1964 and is a voluntary non-profit organization. The Society conducts annual photography contests and exhibitions for photographers to display their work, organizes conferences and workshops and provides free photography training for 50-75 beginners every year. Several well-known Sri Lankan photographers started their careers through the recognition of their work at contests organized by this society.

Being the sole distributor in Sri Lanka for Fujifilm since 1995, Hayleys Consumer is the leader in the Sri Lankan photo imaging industry. The company is the sole supplier for Fujifilm Digital Minilabs in Sri Lanka and has a market share of over 70 per cent in this sector. Worldwide, Fujifilm has sold over 35,000 Frontier Digital Minilabs.
