Within weeks from
Photokina 2006, leading-edge photo imaging products to be
available locally
Several new leading-edge products launched by the global
photo-imaging giant Fujifilm at this year's Photokina exhibition
in Germany are to be introduced to the Sri Lankan market by the
company's local representative Hayley's Consumer Products
Limited (HCPL), in a demonstration of commitment to local photo
enthusiasts.
The new products to be introduced include the latest digital
cameras, a thermal photo printer, a new type of recordable disc
and the latest technology films which will enable the relatively
small local market to keep pace with the most developed markets
of photo products, the company said.
HCPL will launch Fuji's FinePix S6500fd digital camera in Sri
Lanka in November and will subsequently introduce the FinePix
S9600 digital camera, the new high speed ASK-2000 thermal photo
printer, Labelflash compatible DVDs, the Fujichrome T64
Professional film and the Fujichrome Provia 400X Professional
film.
Hayleys Consumer Director Jude Silva said: "Globally, Fujifilm
is gearing itself to overcome all competitors and is growing
rapidly. We will strive to mirror this growth and leadership and
the launch of these latest products from Fujifilm is a step in
this direction."
The first product to be launched, the FinePix S6500fd features
an industry first face detection technology which enables the
camera to recognize faces and bring them into clear focus with
the ideal exposure in just 0.04 seconds. The second camera to be
introduced, Fujifilm's FinePix S9600 digital camera has a 10.7x
Fujinon optical zoom lens, 9 megapixel Fujifilm Super CCD
sensor, and features class-leading ISO 80-1600 performance.
As a response to requests from users for a thermal printer with
additional processing capacity and simplified maintenance, HCPL
will also introduce the new high-speed ASK-2000 Thermal Photo
Printer. The machine uses a new highly sensitive paper, ink
ribbon and a redesigned print mechanism to achieve a 1.5 times
increase in print speed, compared to the older model. It can
make a 3.5 x 5 or 4R size print in eight seconds in a single
unit network and this time is reduced to half if used in a
two-unit network configuration. A new recordable DVD+R disc is
also to be introduced as an addition to Fuji's range of DVD
products that use the laser-labelling system Labelflash. The
discs have a data burning speed of 1-16x.
Labelflash is a new technology that uses a laser beam to
inscribe data at a depth of 0.6mm below the surface on the label
side and is a convenient way to produce high-resolution images
without a printer or ink. The depth of writing offers greater
durability and resistance to scratching.
HCPL will introduce two new films for film photography
enthusiasts, despite the growing popularity of digital
photography. The first of these, the Fujichrome T64 Professional
is an ISO 64 tungsten type, high image-quality colour reversal
film. It utilizes Fuji's proprietary Multi-Structured Sigma
Crystal (MSSC) and Multi-Colour-Correction Layer (MCCL)
technologies to deliver ultra-fine grain and hue fidelity that
rank among the best in the world.
The company will also introduce the Fujichrome Provia 400X
Professional film, which has one of the highest levels of ultra
fine grain with an RMS granularity of 11 for 400-speed colour
reversal film. This new ISO 400 film delivers improved colour
saturation comparable to current ISO 100 films.
HCPL sponsored 20 Fujifilm Digital Imaging (FDI) customers from
Sri Lanka at the Photokina 2006 exhibition in Cologne, Germany,
of which 13 were able to attend the event. "We selected our best
Digital Imaging customers through a target based competition,"
HCPL's Industrial Photo Imaging Manager S. Nimal said. "Some
winners were unable to attend the exhibition due to personal
commitments."
The Fujifilm stall was the largest at the Photokina exhibition
and one of the most attractive. A wide array of the latest
Fujifilm products, including the Frontier 500, 550, 570 and 590
digital minilabs and two of the latest digital minilabs which
were manufactured jointly by Fujifilm and Noritsu Koki were
among the products displayed. The sole distributor in Sri Lanka
for Fujifilm since 1995, Hayleys Consumer is the leader in the
Sri Lankan photo imaging industry. The company is the leading
supplier for Fujifilm in Sri Lanka claiming a market share of
over 70 per cent in this sector. Worldwide, Fujifilm has sold
over 35,000 Frontier Digital Minilabs.
