For the third
consecutive year Hayleys PLC walked away with the Best
Corporate Citizen Award last week.
The Best Corporate
Citizen Awards 2006, conducted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce
in association with the World Conservation Union (IUCN),
honoured the Corporate Community in their efforts to promote
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at a gala awards ceremony
at Oak Room, Cinnamon Grand.
Five category
winners for Environment, Customer Relations, Employee Relations,
Community Relations and Economic Performance as well as the top
10 best corporate citizens also received awards that evening.
Hayleys while being
chosen as the Large Scale “Best Corporate Citizen” also bagged
the Environment and Community Relations categories. The runners
up in the large-scale category were HSBC (2nd runner-up) and
John Keells Holdings (1st runner-up). The joint winners for the
Employee Relations category were Nestle Lanka and Ceylon Tobacco
Company Ltd while Sampath Bank was the winner in the Economic
Performance category.
Eagle Insurance
walked away with the award for the Customer Relations category.
Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College won the
“Best Corporate Citizen Award” for the small and medium scale
category.
The top 10 Best
Corporate Citizens comprised, in alphabetical order, Aitken
Spence, Ceylon Tobacco, Eagle Insurance, Hayleys Ltd, HSBC, John
Keells Holdings, Nestle Lanka, Sampath Bank, Singer Sri Lanka
and Unilever.
The main objective
of the award is to raise awareness on the importance of CSR to
the business community and to promote and encourage CSR
practices amongst the corporate sector. |
