FedEx aims to be ‘carrier of choice’ in Sri Lanka

09-01-2006

Strategic alliance between Mountain Hawk Express and Hayleys Advantis gear to provide “one stop shop” for all logistics needs.

Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) last week unveiled plans to become the carrier of choice for Sri Lankan exporters by starting operations at the ‘integrated logistics service centre’, for which all the initial ground work has already been completed.

The integrated services centre, which aims to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for all logistics needs for exporters is the culmination of the strategic alliance between Mountain Hawk Express (MHE) (Licensee of FedEx Express) and Hayleys Advantis that was formulated six months ago.

“As a result of this alliance the customers in Sri Lanka can benefit from integrated logistics solutions such as warehousing and shipping through Hayleys Advantis in addition to air express service offered by FedEx in Sri Lanka,” FedEx Middle East Indian Subcontinent & Africa Vice President Operations Hamdi Osman said.

According to Mr. Osman the strong fusion between the established inland transportation and logistics network of Hayleys Advantis, Mountain Hawk Express’s insight into the local market and extensive global air and ground network of Fed ex would create a unique value proposition for Lankan exporters.

Hayleys Chairman Rajan Yatawara noted that “the new total logistics solution will make FedEx the first choice in air express services in Sri Lanka.” He highlighted that this new strategic alliance will enhance the transportation portfolio of Hayleys, while providing many value added services to its clientele. The integrated logistics service centre plans to collaborate with Hayleys zonal operations within the free trade zones which would provide facilities to make later pickups and earlier deliveries to customers located in industrial zones.

Hayleys Advantis Managing Director Mohan Pandithage noted that extensive employee training has been done to provide high quality services to clients. A new office in the heart of Colombo has also been obtained to set up the new service.
